THE
HUBCAPS are entertainers, based out of the Denver area,
that have put together a unique blend of Rock N Roll music and
showmanship providing an entertainment value difficult to match
by any group in the Oldies field. With all members being
accomplished musicians, the musical foundation is extremely
robust and authentic providing the basis for THE HUBCAPS
expansive and unequaled vocal expressions. Not content with
merely providing dance music, THE HUBCAPS
individual members have developed characterizations to accent the
musical experience and to help convey the 50s-60s era to the
audience. Through their characters the band brings the audience
into the act with interchange, comedy, song story lines and
simple exuberance so that no one can be untouched by the
experience. THE HUBCAPS unique and accomplished
vocal abilities provide the three and four part harmony so
essential to some of the best music of the era. Songs by a wide
variety of groups such as: Danny and the Juniors, The Dell
Vikings, The Diamonds, The Drifters, The Four Seasons, Joey Dee
& the Starlighters, The Coasters, Dion & the Belmonts,
The Righteous Brothers, The Beachboys, and The Beatles to name
just a few, are covered effortlessly along with a virtual

BOBBI SUE
(aka:
"lungs")
Real name: Roberta Suzanne Heinsbach
Born: Wheat Ridge, Colorado
Bobbi Sue is the all-around 'home-town' girl. The oldest of five
brothers and sisters, she doesn't drink, doesn't swear and is a
big help at home. Her only vice is buying Double Bubble by the
case. Squeaky clean probably best describes this captain of the
high school cheerleading squad, former prom queen, consistent
dance contest winner and 'skate hop' at the local A&W. She
also is very naïve (she doesn't realize the significance of
her nick-name - she thinks it refers to her vocal capabilities).
Irvin Smidlap is forever pestering Bobbi Sue for a date and so
far Bobbi Sue has consistently turned him down - he's sooo weird!
Slick, on the other hand, has impressed Bobbi Sue because he is
so cool - she loves his hair. Bobbi Sue hasn't made up her mind
though. Given her goal to be the wife of either an astronaut or a
doctor, she knows that Slick, while a lot of fun, will not
fulfill her idea of a good husband. But Irvin just might be the
guy to win her.

IRVIN (aka:
"Irv")
Real name: Irvin Ralph Smidlap
Born: Lincoln, Nebraska
Moved to Colorado in 1975 so that, according to his father, Irvin
might be able to play college football at CU. Irvin,
unfortunately for Bobbi Sue, is the boy next door. A self-taught
accordion player, the young Irvin would drag his accordion
outside and play 'Lady of Spain' every time he saw Bobbi Sue
playing in her back yard. Fortunately for Irvin, this love of
music and his 4.0 GPA earned him a spot in the Hubcaps band (it
also helps that he does homework for the other members of the
band). As a senior at Wheat Ridge High, Irvin spends his spare
time playing chess - he is captain of the Chess Club - doing
chemistry or math problems and studying for his S.A.T.'s. As
Irvin says,
"There's nothing like doing logarithms to put a smile on my
face." His
goal is to be accepted at MIT and study for his ultimate career
in either nuclear physics or elasto-polymers - and to ask a girl
out on a date.
He wrote an article for the school paper about his most
embarrassing moments. In an attempt to outsmart his classmates
Irvin used the penname of Vignir Pladmis. Everyone knew it was
him. His 'moments' included his bedwetting problem, the time he
tried to explain to Bobbi Sue's father what he was doing in the
tree outside Bobbi Sue's bedroom window, the time he walked
around school all day with an 'I'M A DORK' signed taped to his
back, the time some guys from the football team through him into
the girls' locker room wearing only an athletic supporter. It was
even more embarrassing when the girls threw him into the
teachers' lounge!

SLICK (aka: "Slick
as a whistle"
- get it?)
Real name: Frank Everett Whistle
Born: Detroit, Michigan
Moved to Colorado in 1978.
Slick had the good fortune to grow up in Detroit in a house
nestled between the most popular girl in school on one side and
the most popular boy on the other. In his mind, that qualified
him to be popular too. Slick owes his nick-name to his hair (of
course) and his early talent of acrobatic bicycle riding. While
he was indeed talented he unfortunately landed too many times on
the cross bar. Bad for Slick but good for the Hubcaps - he has a
great high falsetto voice!
After he moved to Colorado, he just figured he would spread his
'coolness' around. Hardly a day goes by when he doesn't impose
his coolness on some unsuspecting girl. His boss at the drive-in
also thinks he's cool too - especially when the dumpster needs to
be cleaned out. One night, after work, Slick was asked to join a
small group of high school seniors in a cigar smoking and beer
drinking contest. He jumped at the chance to impress the older
boys - especially with his skill at belching. Playing a cruel
joke, all the other boys weren't drinking real beer which
eventually led Slick to show off his exceptional talent of
throwing up - like all over everything. He eventually got a
reputation around school as a dude that would do anything for a
laugh. He
figures it is his destiny to go steady with Bobbi Sue.

VINNY (aka:
"carburetor breath")
Real name: Vincent Antonio DeLuca
Born: Jersey City, New Jersey
Moved to Colorado in 1980 to be near Pikes Peak (he doesn't know
why) and because his girl friend wanted to. Vinny is about cars.
He is always up to his elbows in some kind of major overhaul. His
specialty is removing smog equipment (you should see his
collection of catalytic converters). A little absent-minded, his
car blew up because he forgot to tighten a bolt after rebuilding
his carburetor. Fortunately, his girlfriend, Barbara Ann, had a
64oz. Slurpee that she just bought, and he dumped that on the
flaming carb putting out the fire and saving his pride and joy.
Vinny and school did not get along very well. He is the only
Westfield High student who had reserved seating in the
principal's office. Vinny got blamed for a lot of things in
school - he was an easy target, he never ran away - which is
probably why he
holds the record for hours spent after school in detention. A natural prankster though, he never
got caught for putting the box of lemon-lime jello in the
principal's radiator. That baffled everyone - it was the same
color as the antifreeze. He did get a 2-week suspension for
pulling a false fire alarm - which he didn't do.
He left school after his Junior year - to the relief of everyone
concerned - so he could give full attention to his job at the gas
station. Bart, the owner, appreciated Vinny's hard work and
honesty, and made him assistant manager. Alone at night, Vinny
would think of a lot of crazy things to do - like frying the
moths with aerosol cans of starting fluid and his cigarette
lighter. One night, to play a trick on Barbara Ann, he took an
extra pair of coveralls, and work boots and lowered the lift down
with just the legs sticking out. When Barbara Ann came to pick
him up she walked in the garage area and fainted dead away. After
Vinny revived her, she was so mad she picked up a lug wrench and
threw it at him just grazing his left ear. If it would've hit him
dead on it would have killed him for sure.
